About Leah 

I became interested in Elder Goths when the band I had just joined played a 40th birthday funeral (otherwise known as a gothic birthday party), which took me on a trajectory which has shaped my adult life. When I unexpectedly had the opportunity to attend graduate school, I thought "goths? why not!" After I received a terminal Master's degree in American Studies from the University of Maryland studying Elder Gothic identity in Baltimore, Maryland, I pursued a Ph.D. to dive more deeply into the topic. 

 

My doctoral research was strongly shaped by the pandemic and examined community building based on Gothic values during unprecedented times of change and horror. After earning the doctorate, I continue to think - and write - about where Elder Goths and the world are going.
